The Big Owe was made in 1973, the construction took a lot of time and effort. After the Olympics the Big Owe became the home of the Montreal expos until 2004.
Olympic Boycotts
22 African countries withdraw-ed from the summer Olympics of 1976. This included world class runners such as Filbert Bayi from Tanzania who held the world record in the 1500 meter sprint and in total 440 competitors who ended up not participating.
Key players in the Olympics
During the Montreal Olympic summer games of 1976 athletes set 45 new Olympic records. Records were broken and set in these following sports; swimming, gymnastics, weightlifting, boxing and athletics. One person to mention that performed outstandingly was the 14-year-old Romanian girl Nadia Comaneci as she got the first ever perfect 10 in the uneven bars event.
Olympic Impact
The Montreal Olympics was best known for the huge debt it racked up and the racist scandals of the Republic of China and the New Zealand national team. There were many great aspects of the Olympics that not only impacted Montreal as a city, but as Canada as a country in whole. The Montreal summer Olympics impact ranged from the Canadian Olympic Association to the social impact had on the city of Montreal.
